A GLOBAL EPIC OF THE HEART

In the Cards embodies magical-realism through a psychological lens.

Are we responsible for our parents’ behavior and their choices in life? This is Emma’s dilemma. A secret, long-held by her deceased father comes to light; he fell in love with a Korean woman while stationed there during the war. When the Korean War ended, he left behind the love of his life—pregnant. Emma comes face-to-face with her own abandonment issues while trying to come to terms with her father’s truth.

Inspired by a true story, artist, poet and writer, Edie Barrett, skillfully weaves an archetypal story infused with beauty and grace. It is a story about the tenacity of women, the power of friendship, and our ability to truth-tell and heal. With a global sweep, Barrett transports us to the imaginal realm of the unconscious. She challenges us to step out of our comfort zone and trust our destiny—because just maybe—we’re capable of loving more than we could ever imagine.

Think: Anne Morrow Lindgbergh’s Gift from the Sea meets Paul Coelho’s The Alchemist which then lands in the basket of Dorothy wearing her ruby slippers.

Follow Your Heart Press

I am very intrigued by the prairie landscape and the creative inspiration it brings to poets and writers.

Carol Bly and Robert Bly lived forty miles south of here in Madison. Also, from this region are: Bill Holm, Philip Dacey, Paul Gruchow, Wanda Gag, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Athena Kildegaard, who lives just north of me in Morris.

I love the idea of creating a press that specifically focuses on writers from the prairie. I am experiencing what this means with my own creative work. At this point in time, there are two publications from Follow Your Heart Press, my novel, and my book of poetry.
